The start of ‘Hostel part II’ is both confusing and interesting. You can hear digetic sound of a fire as there are close up shots of a mans arm putting various objects down on a table. These objects include Jewellery and a wallet containing a driving licence of an unknown woman. He then takes all the money from the wallet and burns the positions in the bag, including the photo of the woman; this could suggest she is dead. The mans face is never seen as the lighting is very dark. This gives mystery to the film as the audience is left wondering what is going on. There is then a blurred master shot of the man from behind, this suggests that this man may have something to hide.
This scene then quickly cuts to some police officers stood in a train speaking in a foreign language; this causes suspense as the audience are unable to decipher what they are saying. It is then shown that there is an unconscious or dead man, the police could be seeing whether this man is actually dead.
This makes the audience curious and they will want to know what has happened or what is going to happen later in the film.
