This is and image from the film 'The Exorcist'. This film shows the main character. This shows her head turned all the way around. This is unusual and terrifying, it shows that this character is possessed as a person cannot turn their neck like this.

She is also covered in blood, this is also disturbing because she is a young girl and this demonstrates that something is not right. This is also shown by her room because it is cluttered and shows signs of a struggle.

her face is aged and bleeding, this is not usual, this film may demonstrate that nobody is safe from this unnatural force, even small children cannot fight against it.

The mise-en-scene of the room shows that this child has been brought up to be good as her room has framed art, rather than posters. This may show she has a rich background.

In the ‘Saw’ films the main killer uses a puppet to tell his victims what they have to do or a chive in his sick games in order to survive. This could show that the killer, Jigsaw may be a cowardly person as he is afraid of being caught.

The puppet is a frightening sceptical because it has unusual and exaggerated facial features such as a large nose and cheeks. The way that a puppet is used instead of the actual killer gives mystery to the films. I also think that it allows the violence to be as heartless as possible because a puppet cannot show human emotion or compassion.

The suit on the puppet makes it appear formal and organised, this reflects on the way the victims are killed. The killings are very organised an thoroughly planned.

This is Captain Spalding form the film ‘The Devils Rejects’, the over the top clown makeup may show this character has something to hide. The blood around the characters hands would suggest death and violence.

I think that a clown was used in this film because there are a lot of people who as children were afraid of clowns, maybe the director wanted to illustrate this fear by showing a violent clown.

The make up on this character is mainly made up of black, white, blue and red, this may illustrate death, the black around his eyes and mouth make his piercing eyes and stained teeth stand out, this adds to his threatening appearance.

The way his head is positioned may show he is an unbalanced character; he may be mentally unstable or psychotic.

This is a typical start to a horror film, where the teenage characters out of their own stupidity manage to get picked off one by one buy the enemies.

The cap on the character to the right is from an American collage. This shows that the characters are all fresh from collage and may be naive to the outside world, they may be on spring brake and they are out to have a good time.

Due to the confusion on the map reader’s face I would assume that getting lost is that start of the trouble in this film. They may take a wrong turn which might land them in trouble.

Each of the characters are wearing clothes which give away their personalities. The guy driving is wearing glasses and a cap showing which collage he attends, I believe that he would be the sensible but naïve character that dies first.

The guy in the middle is the more muscular overly confident one of the three; I think he would die second due to his own stupidity.

The last of the three seems to be the hero of the film due to his cowboy hat; he may survive or die last of all. The hat symbolises that he is the ‘leader’.
