In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My media film is in some ways conventional because it has an understandable plot. It the film is set in a dark wood which is a predictable setting for a thriller film. My film also manages to challenge regular conventions as it leaves the audience to decide whether the dark figures that can be seen in the shot are in the persons mind or are actually following him. I also tried to tackle the controversial issue of drugs by showing the downside of taking them.
How does your media group represent particular social groups?
My main character, which is played by Richard Decker, is meant to represent an average teenager. I wanted Richard to play this role because of his youthful appearance, I believe the age when you would most likely to try drugs would be around this age. The dark figures are not meant to be a particular social group, I just wanted them to appear to be tall intimidating people, and I wanted then to look like they were blending into the shadows.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My film would probably be an internet release. It is not a blockbuster film that would be released in the cinema; I could see my film being put on something such as youtube.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my media product would be aimed at 16-25 year olds, probably male. These people would be of a similar age to the main character and would be able to relate to what is going on. People of this age are also highly likely to want to visit a cinema.
How did u attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience firstly with my soundtrack; it is a popular song by Linkin Park. I chose this track because many people like this song. They could also relate to the main character, as he is the same age as my target audience. I think this will appeal more to the target audience than a character that is significantly older than them.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Doing media has taught me a lot about computer programs I would not ordinarily use. The first thing I did was create a blog on Blogger; if I didn’t choose media I would not have this experience. I also used the program Pinnacle to edit my film, I think this will be a useful skill, I now know how to edit out parts I don’t want from some footage.
Looking back from your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
When I look back at my preliminary product I think it looks unprofessional in comparison to my final edit of my film. The camera techniques are simple and there is no complex editing. There is also no soundtrack or changes to the sound, I believe with my skills I have learnt in media I can create a much better quality film than I could at the start of my media course.
